This is an exciting year for your child! He/she will receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist for the first time. As a parent you will have the primary responsibility of preparing your child to receive these sacraments. The formal classroom training your child receives at Saint Peter School or the Faith Formation Program is intended to reinforce what you are teaching at home.
A Parent Reconciliation workshop and information evening (for parents only) is scheduled for September 26, 2018 from 5:15 - 6:30 p.m.
or 7:00 - 8:15 p.m. in the church. Attendance at one of these meetings is expected in order to enroll your child in the sacramental program. The meeting will include the mechanics of the program. One of our priests, will speak about the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The talk will certainly inspire and encourage everyone in attendance.
Note to parents of Faith Formation students: Students will attend their Faith Formation class at their regular time on September 26.
The Grade Two student text is
Jesus Our Life, by Ignatius Press. It will aid you and your child in preparing to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. This preparation time should be filled with joy and anticipation and help your child become more aware of God's infinite love and forgiveness. In addition each family will also be receiving a copy of
The New Saint Joseph First Communion Catechism. You and your child will go through the lessons in this book to help in teaching the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
A special First Reconciliation Preparation Day is planned for you and your child on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. OR 12:30 – 2:00 pm. You will need to choose which of these sessions you will attend. This preparation time will give us an opportunity to review and reinforce the main concepts of the Sacrament of Reconciliation presented both at home and through Saint Peter School and the Faith Formation Program. More details will be sent to you later. Please fill out the enclosed request form and return to the office by November 5, 2018 to reserve your session time.
Please return the enclosed Baptismal Form to us by November 5. If your child was baptized here at St. Peter’s, you only need to return the form.
If your child was notbaptized at St. Peter's you will need to attach a copy of the Baptismal Certificate. If you do not have a copy, you will need to contact the church where your child was baptized. They will provide a copy at no charge to you. You may even have them send it directly to us at Saint Peter, Faith Formation Office, 1250 South Shore Drive, Forest Lake, MN 55025.
Please complete and return the form in its entirety, even if the baptism took place at Saint Peter. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
If at any time you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
P.S. On the back of this letter you will find a schedule for the Sacramental program. Please save this information and note these dates on your family calendar. Enclosed is a Reconciliation request sheet (1/2 sheet) and a Baptismal Request Sheet.
These forms must be returned no later than Monday, November 5.
